1, Too Far Gone

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

Hey now, Where you goin'?

I can't seem to see the road your on

You're too far gone

Do you know your way

Have nothing more you wish to say

As you fade away

* Is there really someplace you'd be free

Is there no room there for me?

I don't really know the meaning

Of the dreams I share, but they're all true

Yes they're true

Now you turn and run

I thought we had the stuff to see them through

What ever happened to you?

* Is there really someplace you'd be free

Is there no room there for me?

2. There's Nothin

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

There's nothing I can do

To ease your worried mind

I think it's gonna take a little time

There's nothing I can teach you

That you don't already know

I'm thinking that it's time for me to go

Whoa Whoa

I think it's time for me to go

There's nothing I can make you feel

That you haven't felt before

I'm thinking that I never loved you more

Just because a love is real

That don't make it right

My heart keeps hoping that it might

Whoa Whoa

My heart keeps hoping that it might

There's nothing I can do

To make you want me to stay

But I keep trying anyway

Whoa Whoa

But I keep trying anyway

3. Steppin' Stone

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

Hey! Darlin',

tell me where you been

Can't get a straight answer

from none of your friends

Rumours are flyin',

I heard it second hand

You're thinkin' of tradin' me in, for a better man

* I'd rather walk this world alone

Than ever be your steppin' stone

You know I love you darlin',

More than any man should

I bought you all those pretty things

Now didn't I treat you good

I hear you're gonna leave me

Gonna walk right out that door

Tell me where you gonna go now baby

No, wait a minute, don't tell me,

I don't wanna know

* I'd rather walk this world alone

Than ever be your steppin' stone

Don't start cryin' now baby

‘Cause we both know it's true

I've only got one problem babe

And we both know it's you

Your bags are packed darlin'

In fact they're sitting out on the lawn

I don't care if you're ready or not

I just want you gone

* I'd rather walk this world alone

Than ever be your steppin' stone

5. Teach Me To Dance

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

As long as I can remember

I've been chasing after rainbows

I've been dreaming ‘bout the future

Chasing it every way the wind blows

I've worked long and hard regardless

Of what my travels led you through

Now I see that the only dream

That came true for me was you

· I'm just a simple man

And I've traveled very far

It takes a whole lot of growin'

Just to get to where you are

I'm hoping that you'll see fit

To give me one more chance

And lead me to your dance floor

And teach me how to dance

Like a fool I've squandered

Every treasure that I've known

And I've collected bitter harvest

From every seed I've ever sown

I've called on you to comfort me

And support me all along

You'd done it with the sweetest smile

And with a love that's oh so strong

· I'm just a simple man

And I've traveled very far

It takes a whole lot of growin'

Just to get to where you are

I'm hoping that you'll see fit

To give me one more chance

And lead me to your dance floor

And teach me how to dance

Oh baby I've been blind

I need to make you understand

I want to be your man

Come on baby just reach out your hand

6. This Time It's Gonna Hurt

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

This time it's gonna hurt

This time it's gonna sting

A world of pain That'll leave a stain

That's what it's gonna bring

This time it's gonna hurt

This bite is worse than bark

It's gonna leave a mark

It's gonna burn It's gonna bruise

It's gonna break your heart

It's gonna break your heart

This time it's gonna hurt

7. Wildcat

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

In the evening

When the lights go down

In the quiet little town

You can see her walking

All dressed in red

Her body's on fire

But her soul is dead

She's as cold as a glacier

And deep as a well

I think she's a wildcat

Sent straight from hell

8. I Don't Know

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

We both knew it would never last

But we couldn't let the moment pass

Fires burning deep inside

Even though we had to hide

Even though we had to hide

We had to make a secret rendezvous

For secret lovers like we two

And kid ourselves our love is true

Even though we had to lie

Even though we had to lie

The fires of passion are bold

Spinning me out of control

Why can't we do what we're told?

I don't know

9. I Needed Your Love

©℗ 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus music

Won't you stay awhile

Make me smile

Stick around

Come on, don't let me down

I need your love

Sit right down

I won't make a sound

And tell me what happened

To the sweet love we found

Did you find somebody new

Is it a phase that you're going through

Tell me where'd I go wrong

Suddenly I don't belong

I need your love

Well I can't hold on

To a feeling you say is gone

You be you and I'll be me

If you can't handle us as we

Just remember...

That I needed your love

1. Roll Over

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

Three long months and I keep on trying

Never can get it right

Then there she stands, holding my hand

Sayin' baby let's do it tonight

I've been on hold, there's been a delay

It's been three months to the day

Little girl you're in for a surprise '

cause your never gonna get away

* Roll over Roll,

Roll, Roll over baby

Roll Over

Baby let's do it again

2. Burn Your House Down

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

Yesterday you were my only

Now I sit here sad and lonely

How could you have done that honey?

Sell my guitar for spending money

You took my car, my radio too

I know now what I must do

* I'm gonna burn your house down

Tonight

I hope you make it out

Alright

You went and took another lover

Above you girl there is no other

Y'shouldn't have let me catch you messin'

Now maybe you will learn your lesson

3. One Horse Town

©℗ 1994, 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

I saw you in your mainstream

Your body golden brown

All around you laughing

But all you do is frown

You're staring at your people

The ones you're forced to know

And you wonder why you stay here

When you'd really love to go

* And it's a one horse town

And they've all turned you down

So if you can't get around

You go on back to your one horse town

To your torch-town house

Your one horse town

To your one horse town

I wonder what you're really looking for

As I watch you from the door

I think you're looking for someone new

To show you something more

I'd love to see you smilin'

Smilin' everyday

I had you smilin' for a little while

It was a temporary stay

You'll be a real hot item in the small town rag When you finally pass away

No one makes the grade in this one horse town They just live from day to day

4. Trip To Idoltowne

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

On my way this morning

Sun is shining somewhere...I know it is

I won't be back this way again

Until my battles are fought and won

And it's been so long

Been so wrong to stay

Highway stretched before me

Destiny is calling me... I know it is

It won't take too long my friend

Future lies around the next bend

And it's been so long

Been so wrong to stay

So tell me...where do we go from here

Show me...show me the road that's clear

And when my spirits are falling

Don't let me lose my heart's calling

Dream of a lifetime unfolding

Yes it's my future I'm holding

5. All Over Now

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

Have you ever needed something so bad?

Then realize that it's something you already had Something you can't ever get again

It's like some place you've already been

You see who it was and you cry

You hate yourself and ask yourself why

Ya know you're feeling like you're gonna die

* But it's all over now

No sense asking why or how

But as I get ready to go to bed

Thoughts of you go through my head

It's hard to realize it's dead

Have you ever hated something so bad?

Then realize that it's something you ain't never had

To wake up from your beautiful dreams

And realize...it ain't what it seems

You see who it was and you cry

You hate yourself and ask yourself why

Ya know you're feeling like you're gonna die

* But it's all over now

No sense asking why or how

But as I get ready to go to bed

Thoughts of you go through my head

But now I realize it's dead

6. Say Goodbye

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

The setting sun knows no reason

The changing of seasons

The passing of time

Knows no rhyme

The fever that's burning

Torture so sweet

Chained to a yearning

Set me free

And when you cry to me that you love me

I can see through the lies As they stream from your eyes

Your tears are as dry as a desert July

I want you so bad that it's breaking my heart

But we both know it was wrong from the start

* Say Goodbye

Hold back the tears that you cry

They're not real....I know how you feel

Say goodbye

And just walk out the door like before

I don't need anymore

Say goodbye

I believed that you loved me

No one above me

Led blindly along...I was wrong

The sleeper awakens

Sun in his eyes

Morning has broken... your disguise

7. My Pride

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

Darling I love you

Can't you see

What your indecision

Is doing to me

I feel I've been taken lightly

Taken in stride

Lover I only want you

Right here by my side

Baby I've pleaded with you

Lord knows I've tried

But I can't go on this way

I've got my pride

It's not like a gave up trying

I'm not one to hide

But you know where you can reach me

If you ever decide

8. Thinking Of You

©℗ 1994, 2019 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

Oh yeah the feelings don't stir

Quite like they used to do

I've finally stopped

Oh yeah thinking of you

Now wait a minute baby...

That's not quite true

When I'm down

And all alone

I think about the town

I used to call home

And all the people there

Still caught in it's hold

Marry young, retire...

And then grow old

I think about the day

After mid winter week

Left me so shaken

Unable to speak

And the letter...

Yes the letter....

That tore me in two

That's what I think about

When I think of you

9. Let Me Know

©℗ 1994 Dennis Veator/Hippocampus Music

In the morning when I rise

And the sun shines like your eyes

Let me be there for your dawning

And I'll try to keep your love from yawning

* If you need some love than let it show

If you want my love than let me know

We could plant a seed and watch it grow

If you don't try, well, than you'll never know

As I dream of you all night long

Just as if you were in a song

If you want me well, here I am

If not than I'll just understand

* If you need some love than let it show

If you want my love than let me know

We will plant a seed and watch it grow

Yes I'll try, hold on 'cause here we go!

bio.

Dennis has been performing professionally on both guitar and vocal for more than twenty years. His career started in the capital district area of Albany, NY. In the mid eighties he joined a nationally touring oldies show-band called De Ja Vu and stayed with that organization for several years. During that time he also played in the backing band for the legendary Drifters. Upon returning to New York he worked as a solo acoustic act while also playing a variety of original and commercial projects: Abraxas, Justus, Pictures, Network...etc. In 1993 Dennis became a member of the regionally successful pop/cover band Taboo. In 1994 he released the original record "One Horse Town" and toured in support of that release for 2 years. Dennis then packed up his belongings and made his way to Nashville, TN where he worked for a brief time as a songwriter for a publishing house on Printer's Alley before being called back to Central New York. Most recently Dennis has been applying his time to writing and recording, culminating in the 2019 release of his second original record "Venice Detour". He continues to write and record while also refining and expanding his internationally touring solo show.
